Challenge #32 Fancy Envelopes

As promised...I'm back with a little tutorial.  For what you ask?  Envelopes.  Yep...that's right...learn how to make your own envelope using the Scor-Pal or other fun scoring tool.

There are so many things to do with envelopes besides putting letters or cards in them.  There lots of tutorials on making envelope mini albums, decorating the inside and out of an envelope, turning an envelope into bag.  What can you do with an envelope?

What about making your card fit your envelope instead of the trying to find an envelope to fit your card?  have an odd sized piece of paper you don't want to throw out...make an envelope with it and then the card to match.  Make you're envelopes out of magazine pages or double sided decorative paper.

For an envelop with a long straight flap and an A2 sized card (half sheet of paper scored in half = A2), I started off with a piece of paper 10 inches by 6 3/4 inches.  Line your paper up vertically and score at 1/2 inch and 6 1/4".  Turn a quarter turn and score at 2 1/2 inches and 7 inches.  Fold all score lines and trim off the excess at the top and bottom where the score lines cross.trim in at an angel for a neater finish.  A little tip about gluing your envelope together...add your adhesive to the bottom flap sides instead of the middle sides.  The bottom is shorter and you won't get adhesive where you don't need it.  For this type of envelope you can use a border punch on the top flap for decoration.  Change up the sizes and score lines to make cool envelopes.

For an envelope with a pointed flap I started off with a sheet of paper 8 1/4 inches square.  I lined it up corner to corner on  the 6 inch line on the Scor-pal.  That will be our middle point.  I scored on the 3 inch line and then the 9 inch line.  If you score 3 inches to the have to score 3 inches to the left...try this with different sizes of paper and different score lines.  The next step is to turn a quarter turn and and score on lines that will cross the first lines.  Score on the 3 3/4 inch and 8 1/4 inch lines...don't mind the extra score line...let's just call that an embellished envelope.  I wasn't paying attention when I was I had an extra line.

I trimmed the lines that crossed and rounded the corners of the envelope.
Make sure you only add adhesive to the bottom flap edges.  If your adhesive overlaps, it'll be a nice envelope...but you won't be able to fill it with anything.
You can add decorative paper to the inside for a liner or make the envelope from decorative paper for a fun and fancy look.

I used a spellbinders labels die to mask the back...notice my extra score line look kinda neat.  Once masked, the envelope was stamped and stippled.  I removed the mask and then stamped using fleurididy 1.

Another great project, as mentioned earlier, is the envelope mini album...a fun way to recycle envelopes.  make sure you're envelopes are sealed on all sides.  If you want a pocket...trim off either or both sides of the envelope.  score your envelope in half.  Do this for 4 or 5 envelopes.  I think this was made with 4.'re going to be adding embellishments and other goodies to this envelope...each envelope adds another two pages of bulk and embellishments.

I cut my edges off and I'll use them for pockets later on.

Love this vintage camera from the Vintage Treasures.  It goes great with the "You Make Me Smile" from the fabulous phrases.

This isn't finished yet...I want to add a little more stamped images to it as well as photos.  Check back Wednesday for more pictures of this project.

I'm sure you're thinking it's really late...where is that challenge.
