Ahoy Mateys! Laura here ready to set sail with this amazing Creative Cafe' KOTM for July from The Rubber Cafe'!! Being a huge fan of everything nautical, I started with the add on stamp set "Nautical":
Base: 5&1/2" by 4&1/4" red cardstock
1st Layer: 5&1/4" by 4" piece of sailboat paper glued to the base with Scrap Happy Glue
Center piece: 4" by 2&1/4" piece of red cardstock glued about 1/4" from the bottom of the sailboat paper. Then using a 4" by 2" piece of woodgrain paper, I added the "ribbon waves" by putting 2 strips of Scor Tape about 1/4" apart like so:
TIP: You can see the faint outline of the flag stamp along the bottom in the picture above.....I stamped it in Versamark Ink as a place holder so I knew how much room to leave at the bottom for the other embellishments on this piece that are added later.
To make the waves....just pinch and gather the seam binding ribbon on each strip of scor tape. This might take a little practice....but if you are careful, you can pull it back off when you are first doing this if you aren't happy with the look. Do the top dark aqua FIRST, then layer the lighter color slightly over it.
To finish the center piece, attach a strip of the striped washi tape along the bottom edge of the woodgrain paper, then stamp a row of flags on basic white cardstock using Love Letter Memento Luxe Ink. I stamped the center of the paper first, then stamped each end to complete the strip. I trimmed it close (about 1/4") and matted it on red cardstock (3/4"). To attach this piece over the ribbon waves, I used foam tape and score tape:
The scor tape side
slightly overlaps the bottom edge of the light colored ribbon.
The sailboat was stamped in Love Letter Memento Luxe and fussy cut out. The compass rose was stamped in Pumice Stone Distress Ink on the upper right corner of a 2" square of white cardstock. The "Ahoy" sentiment was stamped in Love Letter Memento Luxe over top and this piece is matted on a 2&1/4" square of red cardstock. The sailboat was foam taped on, and then the square was tucked under the ribbon waves and glued down using Scrap Happy Glue.
Here is a closer look:
The upper right corner is finished off with a banner of the woodgrain paper, layered with a small piece of washi tape, and then another banner of the flag stamp foam taped to the top.
Thanks for joining me in the cafe' today....it's going to be a great month full of inspiration with this amazing kit and it's add ons! C'mon and set sail with us!!
