Beautiful Beach: Creative Cafe' July KOTM

Hey there everyone!  Laura here today with a fun new kind of card I found out about recently.  It's called a penny roller or penny slider card, and here is my take on it using The Rubber Cafe' KOTM for July:

You can start with any base color you would like.  I used a standard 5&1/2" by 4&1/4" base in blue pearl cardstock.  I covered the entire front (5&1/2" by 4&1/4") with the soft cloud pattern paper from the kit.

To make the penny slot piece, start with a 2&1/2" by 5&1/2" piece of light blue pearl cardstock.  I made the slot on this piece 3/8" wide by 4&1/2" long.  The top of the slot is 3/4" from the top of the cardstock piece.  To make this easier, I scored the slot opening, then went back and cut the opening out with a craft knife.

To decorate the slotted piece, I used 3 different colors of blue paper in the kit and tore the edges and layered the papers to resemble waves--being very careful to avoid the slot.  I also added a layer of torn paper along the top edge for the beach and a second layer to the card base about 1&1/4" from the top:

I added TWO layers of foam tape to the back of the slot piece....again being careful to avoid the opening:

This piece is added to the bottom of the card front.  Then you take the two pennies, and add TWO foam dot circles to the very center of one penny:

Put the second penny directly on top of the first--be careful to line them up as perfectly as you can.

Then gently pop the pennies into the slot on the card:

You can see the penny has glue on it....ready for the beach ball.  I added The Rubber Cafe' You're So Fine Glitter to the wooden beach ball from Queen & Co.

You start by adding a thin layer of Scrap Happy Glue to every other section and let it dry til it's clear:

Buff on one color of glitter, then add glue to the other sections, allow to dry, then buff on your second color, then glue to the penny on the card.

The beach scene is the bucket, sandcastle, and shells, stamped and colored with Copic Markers.  I stamped an extra layer of the sandcastle to give it dimension.  The castle is brushed with a thin coat of Scrap Happy Glue and buffed with Crystal Ice You're So Fine Glitter to make it look like sand.  These are layered using foam tape.

The finished card has a fun moving beach ball that rolls back and forth in the make-believe waves on the beach scene--you can see the action in this super quick video:

Thanks for stoppin' by the cafe' today!  Hope you've enjoyed this trip to the beach for some interactive card fun!
