Guest Designer - Jen Boumis Run The Day...

Hi Everyone!  Jen Boumis here and I'm thrilled to be The Rubber Cafe's, January Guest Designer using their beautiful Creative Cafe' kit of the month called It's a New Year!

Today I am sharing a combination greeting card and gift card holder. As soon as I saw the to-go coffee cup image I knew it would be the first used. The Fancy Pants True Friend collection is one of my all time favorites with its warmth and whimsy. A perfect pairing for this month's stamp designs! Here is my card:

I started with an A2 base using the dark gray cardstock in the kit and added a slightly smaller mat, (3 3/4 x 5 1/4") using the orange dot pattern.

To make the gift card holder, I started with the same dark grey stock as my base card. Using a pencil, I traced around the card and cut a piece (measuring 5" x 3 3/4") that would fold to create a small envelope. I scored a line up 1/2" from the long edge of the strip then, using the GC as a guide, scored along each side to complete my three fold lines. I then trimmed off the excess rectangles in the bottom corners as shown in the photo, slightly angling the cuts for a clean fold.

The envelope was sealed together with double sided adhesive and I used a 1" circle punch to create a thumb notch at the top. A length of the pinked edge chalkboard tape was wrapped around the envelope and topped with a bracket punched base of my favorite True Friend pattern. I lightly water colored the stamped latte image and  shaped it using a 1 1/2" circle punch. The stamped circle is then raised with foam tape.

To punctuate the "run the day" quote, I stamped it on a page torn out of my planner from last year, showing the times on the calendar. To add more to the coffee theme, I knew I wanted to create coffee rings. My tool? The lid to the Fancy Pants sequin container included in the kit. It was the perfect size! I simply ran a brush with some brown water color along the edge, stamped it twice on my yellow patterned paper and splattered a bit more by tapping the brush lightly against my finger.

Lastly, I finished the card with a little aqua polka dot banner snip and another stamped heart, from the center of the latte image, water colored in a contrasting color.

Go out and run the day! -
Jen
