Guest Designer - Jen Boumis :: Something Wonderful Shaker Card

Happy weekend! Jen here back with a shaker card using the fun bicycle stamp from the January Creative Cafe Kit of the Month and the Believe Add-On. We are in the cold, winter doldrums here in New York and this time of year always inspires me toward bright, fresh crafting! The Fancy Pants True Friend line has some lovely colors and I chose to play up the warm tones for this card.

I started my card with a 5x5" base card (5x10" scored in half) using the Bazzill in Circus Peanuts in this month's kit. Instant sunshine! Once I decided to use the bicycle image from the Believe Add-On, I knew I wanted to ground the image with a road. The Chalk Tape roll from the kit was just too fun not to use and I love how it gives off a bit of extra gloss behind the shaker. To make the tape appear more like an actual roadway, I used a straight edge and a yellow colored pencil to create two solid yellow lines down the center of the tape. Colored pencils are super versatile and easy! I also used them to color in the bike.

The pinked edge of my "road" then guided me to repeat the pattern and use the chevron paper for the front of my shaker. Here's how:

1) I trimmed the chevron design to 4.5" square and used a scallop die to cut my window. I then backed the full window with acetate and used a ring of 3-D foam squares to create my border to hold in the kit sequins and add space for shaking.

2) I wanted to be sure the entire bike and the road lines were seen through the opening so, I added a small pile of sequins to the top of the stamped image then added the top piece, allowing the window opening to guide may placement.

3) Once the shaker was assembled, I stamped the "Always Believe..." sentiment from the Believe Add-On on a strip of the same orange Bazzill, cut notches in either end to create a banner and used a 3-D Foam Square to pop it atop a small die cut scalloped circle in another, yellow Fancy Pants Pattern. I then cut two 1" squares from the aqua diamond patterned paper and cut those in half on a diagonal to make my corners. Lastly, I snipped a small rectangle from the black chalkboard pattern, formed an arrow tip and topped that with three sequins to accent the top right of the card. Done!

I hope this inspires you to create something fun today! - Jen
