Guest Designer - Jen Boumis :: Coffee Time

I love coffee. A lot. As a mom to three very young children, it's always Coffee Time at our house! This card is an ode to one of my favorite things using the January Creative Cafe KOTM.

I stamped the to go coffee cup on white stock. To use just one word from the "One day at a time" stamp, I masked off my stamped image with a sticky note and added the phrase on top so that only the word "time" was applied to my background. I then colored my image and die cut the piece.

I layered the rest of the card with nested hearts dies by Spellbinders and added my stamped circle last, popping it up with a 3-D foam square for added dimension, then added a line of sequins to the card front.

Cheers! - Jen

Enjoy the Ride!

Hello all!  I have a colorful, trendy card to share with you today using the Creative Cafe' KOTM add-on stamp set: Believe.

Base: 4&1/4" by 5&1/2" brown/gray cardstock.

First Layer: 4&1/4" by 2&1/2" piece of small triangle pattern paper. Cut aqua, white, peach and yellow triangles from multicolor triangle pattern paper.  Glue center piece to center of card front and colorful triangle pieces around it using Scrap Happy Glue.  Add sequins.

Center stamped panel: Stamp bicycle using Staz-on Black onto acrylic.  Color in open areas as desired using Copic Markers (NOTE: this is done on the BACK side....opposite from the Staz-on Ink side).  Trim this piece to 2" by 3&1/4", then glue using Scrap Happy Glue to a same size piece of soft gray cardstock--I put the glue on the fenders of the bike and in the upper left corner knowing I'd have the sentiment there.

Sentiment: Stamp in Black Tuxedo Memento Ink on aqua cardstock, trim to banner and add to bike panel.  Add bike panel to card with foam tape.

Thanks for stoppin' by today!!  Stop back soon for more inspiration!

Pick-me-up Shaker Card

Today, I am sharing with you my take on a shaker card.  It is Mary-Ann here, and I am excited to share this card with you.  It was super fun and quite easy to make.

I started with an yellow A2 base 4 1/2 x 5 1/2.  I cut a piece of yellow, a blue piece of pattern paper and a piece of white cardstock the same size as my card front.

The white is used as a precaution.  I wanted to make sure I made the correct cut.  I used a 3 1/2 inch circle punch.  You could use the large Spellbinder Circle dies if you have them on hand.  I cut close to the left side leaving room for my balloons.  I placed the white on top of the blue and punched again in the exact same spot.  Set the white aside.  I placed a 4x4 piece of acetate behind the open circle securing with regular tape.  At this point, I stamped the girl with the balloons, colored with pencils and fussy cut it out.  I re-stamped the balloon section, cut out a few random balloons and raised them with Kool-Tac Foam Tape for dimension and placed them on the original balloon.  I tucked her body behind the lower left and had the balloons sticking out over the top right as shown in the completed card.

I turned this upside down and backed the entire papered area with foam tape.  Being careful to make sure that around the circle edge, each piece touches the other to ensure no sequins will fall through.  Add a generous amount of sequins atop of the acetate.  These can be full of static when atop of acetate, so before you add them, you can wipe the acetate with a dryer sheet to remove the static.  It really works.  Now remove the foam backing and apply the yellow to it.  At this point, I doodled around the circle.  Then I added the black tape around all of the edges, trimming the extra off.  With a generous amount of Scrap-Happy glue, add this shaker section to the front of the card base.

Hope you will try your hand at making a shaker!  See you soon.

The Perfect Moment!

Hello TRC Fans!  Hope you are enjoying your January Creative Cafe' Kit - It's A New Year!  Today I want to share with you a fun card that I made using the acetate cardstock that is included in your kit.  This is a fun technique that uses Scrap Happy Sheer Glue and You're So Fine Glitter!

Here is my card.....

This card measures 4 1/4 x 5 1/2".  I used the lighter gray cardstock for my base.  There are two layers of patterned paper and a strip of the yellow patterned paper across the middle of the card.  I stamped the sentiment then die cut it using a Classic Oval die and the corresponding Floral Ovals die for the matting layer.  I stamped the clock image onto white cardstock and onto the acetate using Jet Black Staz-on ink.  Plus I used Scrap Happy Sheer Glue and You're So Fine Diamond Cool Highlight Glitter.

On the back side of the stamped clock, coat the clock face with the Scrap Happy Sheer Glue.

Apply some glitter to the glue and tap off the excess.  Allow this to dry.

Once this is dry, use a 1" circle punch to punch out the glittery clock face and adhere it into place on your card!

I added some sequins that are included in the kit to complete my card!

Thanks for stopping by today!

She Believed She Could- double shaker card

"She believed she could, so she did" incorporate two shakers on one card!  Mary-Ann here, sharing a double shaker card with you today.  I am pretty excited that it actually came to me, to punch the holes out of the bicycle tires to create two small, very small shakers.
Here is a look at my card.  I started with a white A2 card base, 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  I cut a 4x5 1/4 piece of white, backed with foam, placed in the center of the card front.  I cut a 3x4 piece of yellow.  I rounded my corners and added to the upper front of my card.  Layered a couple papers and then stamped by bike on scrap white paper.  After fussy cutting my bike, I used the 7/8 hole punch to remove the inside of my tires.  I did have to use an x-acto knife to remove some of the inside that didn't quite get punched out.  I used a 1 inch punch to get paper that would fit behind my shakers.  Go HERE or HERE for a tutorial on how to fill a shaker.

There you have it, two shakers on one card!!!
Be sure to give it a try with your Creative Cafe KOTM "It's a New Year."

One Day at a Time Shaker Card

Happy Sunday Rubber Cafe' fans!

Today I have another shaker card that I made with this months amazing Rubber Cafe' January Cafe Kit!  This kit comes with a great stamp set called "One Day at a Time".  The patterned paper is a 6 x 6 pad, True Friend by Fancy Pants and Melissa included acetate sheets and matching sequins which just screamed out SHAKER CARD to me!!!  I also used the add on stamp set "Believe" for today's card!

Today's card was inspired by a workout buddy of mine.  She started a group of us local women trying to get focused on our health.  Eating better and moving everyday.  The goal wasn't any big amount of weight loss but just to move everyday...not to get hung up on long term eating plans but to just take it one day at a time.  It's so over whelming to think about how much you want to loose or how long it might take so I love this idea of just taking it one day at a time.  Everyday try to eat well, drink your water, and MOVE!  Take it one day at a time and you will reach your goal!I lost 40 pounds this past year by doing just that...One Day at a Time!

I started with a 5 3/8" x 4 1/8" panel of patterned paper from the True Friends Fancy Pants paper pack that comes with this months kit.

Adhere a 5" x 3 3/4" panel of patterned paper with Scrap Happy Glue.

Adhere a slightly smaller panel of patterned paper with Scrap Happy Glue.

Adhere three pieces of tape to  the panel.  Then adhere large white sequins with Scrap Happy Glue.

Adhere panel to a top folding A2 card with Scrap Happy Glue.
Sprinkle some sequins in the center portion of the panel.

Die cut a panel of patterned paper using the A2 matting dies from Spellbinders.

This is what the die cut panel will look like after cuttting....no idea why it looks green in the picture.

Cut a piece of Acetate from the kit slightly smaller that this panel and adhere to the back with Scrap Happy Glue.

Adhere foam tape to the back of the panel.

Remove the backing from the foam tape and adhere to the card front covering the sequins.

Complete the card by stamping the scale, shoes, and sentiment  on white cardstock with Scrap Happy Glue and coloring with markers.  Cut out and adhere to card front as shown with Scrap Happy Glue.

Here's one last look at the completed card.

I hope you enjoyed my third shaker card as well as all the great projects that the team has shared this month!  Check back soon for even more inspiration!

Guest Designer - Jen Boumis :: Perfect Moment Window Card

I love this sweet stamp image of a girl holding a bunch of balloons. It brought a smile to my face as soon as I opened January's Creative Cafe KOTM.

I went to town coloring my stamped image with watercolor pencils and following with a water pen, keeping it bright and youthful. For the window, I used a Spellbinders die to cut a scallop circle from both my yellow card and a white cardstock backing. My stamped image was kiss cut then secured just slightly inside the yellow card opening with a bit of glue. Then, I sandwiched a piece of acetate between the card and the white backing to create the window effect. The sentiment is stamped on the inside of the card and peeks through the window.

To create the paper bow embellishment on the front of my card, I first cut two approximately 1/2" by 4" strips of patterned paper.
1. Adding just a bit of double stick tape to the back, center of one strip, curl each edge back, until they meet in the middle. The adhesive then "cinches" the base of the bow.
2. Lay the center of the bow on the second strip of paper, as shown, leaving approx 1/4" at the top. Fold over that small edge and secure with a bit of adhesive.
3. Snip off all but 1/4" from the opposite side of the strip, add a bit of adhesive to the back of the bow and fold the piece over to complete the bow center.

Have a fantastic weekend! - Jen

New Year, New You!

Hi there everyone!  When I opened the January Creative Cafe' KOTM, I had one particular project jump right out at me!  In my own journey, even though I am not a believer in "New Year's Resolutions" I do believe the end of one year and beginning of another is a great time for reflection on what's working and maybe some things that need some work.  Personally, I'd like to get on track for a healthier way of thinking.  More exercise, better eating, and yes, rewarding myself with something fun now and again too.  Not many of us do that as often as we should!

So before I get too off topic....lol, I decided to make myself a simple little health tracker that I can carry with me anywhere using the KOTM It's a New Year stamp set, and the add-on set Believe.

I used one of the acrylic sheets in this month's kit to make a cover to protect it, and used a basic binder ring you can find in any office supply area.

Page One:

Base: 3" by 4" piece of gray cardstock, round corners.

First Layer: 2&1/2" by 3&1/2" piece of heart pattern paper.

Next Layer: 3" by 1&1/4" strip of aqua cardstock. Adhere chalkboard washi tape strip, glue on sequins using Scrap Happy Glue.

Stamped Panel: Stamp clock in Pumice Stone Distress Ink, trim down to approx. 1&5/8" by 2", mat on aqua cardstock.  Stamp sentiment in Black Tuxedo Memento Ink, trim into banner, mat on gray cardstock.  Cut small banner out of aqua swiss dot pattern paper, glue all pieces down, add sequins next to sentiment.

Page Two:

Base: 3" by 4" piece of orange cardstock, corners rounded.

First Layer: 2&1/2" by 3&1/2" piece of triangle pattern paper.

Next Layer: 3" by 1&1/4" strip of aqua pattern paper. Adhere chalkboard washi tape strip.

Stamped Panel: Stamp scale in Black Tuxedo Memento Ink on white cardstock, color with Copic Markers, fussy cut out, and glue to 1&1/2" square of white cardstock.  Glue everything together with Scrap Happy Glue.

Page 3:

Base: 3" by 4" piece of yellow cardstock, corners rounded.

First Layer: 2&1/2" by 3&1/2" piece of soft gray pattern paper.

Next Layer: 3" by 1&1/4" strip of aqua pattern paper. Adhere chalkboard washi tape strip.

Stamping:  Stamp shoes in Black Tuxedo Memento Ink on white cardstock.  Color with Copic Markers and fussy cut out.  Glue everything together with Scrap Happy Glue.

Page 4:

Base: 3" by 4" piece of brown cardstock, corners rounded.

First Layer: 2&1/2" by 3&1/2" piece of aqua swiss dot pattern paper.

Next Layer: 3" by 1&1/4" strip of orange cardstock. Adhere chalkboard washi tape strip.

Stamping: Stamp sentiment in Staz-On black on acrylic sheet.  Trim down to approx. 1&5/8" by 2" and back with same size of white cardstock. Stamp cup stamp on white cardstock TWICE and on aqua swiss dot pattern paper using Black Tuxedo Memento Ink. Fussy cut cup sleeve out of aqua swiss dot, entire cup out of white cardstock, and color heart only and fussy cut out.  Glue all pieces together using Scrap Happy Glue.  Add sequins (this covers glue spots, though it dries pretty clear).

To finish planner, cut two pieces of acrylic 3" by 4" and round corners.  Punch holes in all pieces and clip with binder ring.  You can also use twine, ribbon or string if you'd like.  Anything you have on hand!

I love the idea of being able to write my goals: weight or healthy eating daily goal, how much or type of exercise, and my treat to reward myself for keeping those goals (like time in my craft room!!).  You can use actual chalk so you can write/rewrite, or use a white slick surface marker to create a more permanent version that is a reminder of your goals for the year.

Thanks so much for stoppin' by the cafe' today!  This is YOUR year.....be inspired!!

Something Wonderful!

Ooh, I just love this image from The Rubber Cafe!  It is the add-on stamp set for the January's Creative Cafe Kit of the Month!

This time around I used the paper pieces to color my umbrella.  All of the papers are from the Fancy Pants collection included in the kit.  I colored the image with Copic Markers.

The heart is from the coffee cup in the One Day At A Time set that is included in the kit.  I did add a twine bow on the center of my umbrella to finish the card off.

Thanks for taking a peek!
